AKA’s joint project with partners at DuXion Motors and Atlantic Advanced Power Technologies (AAPT) for a split permanent magnet hybrid propulsion motor has been selected by the Ocean Supercluster to receive funding under the technology leadership project stream. The goal of the project is to deliver a physical proof of concept prototype of a Hybrid Diesel-Electric system with a split permanent magnet (PM) drive.
“We are honored that our collaborative project with our partners at Duxion has been selected by the Ocean Supercluster. This project showcases that Atlantic Canadian companies are hard at work on the forefront of innovation and we are excited to kick it off. Together with our partners, we are looking forward to demonstrating this cutting-edge technology and creating a product which will help our customers achieve greater efficiency, decrease emissions, and save fuel. At AKA, we understand how important it is to play our part today in developing the new technologies needed for tomorrow and are grateful to be a part of this Ocean Supercluster Project.” – Jason Aspin, CEO, Aspin Kemp & Associates
This project utilizes advanced permanent magnet motor technology to provide both Canadian and global vessel clients with a propulsion system that reduces not only maintenance and fuel costs, but also GHG emissions and carbon footprint. With a total project value of more than $1.8 million, the Ocean Supercluster will provide close to $1.1 million, with the remaining balance coming from project partners.
